Himachal Tour Packages
Himachal Pradesh - Land of snowy mountains, A region of Himalayas where many major ranges meet (Pir-Panjal, Dhauladhar, Himadari & Zanskar) and it is divided in two of the largest basins in South Asia (Indus Basin & Ganga Basin). Four out of 5 rivers which makes PUNJAB (Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Beas) originates from here, fifth river (Sutlej) cuts through middle of the state. This beautiful land has amazing diversity. Whether it is the sprawling doon valleys in the south, Massive Himalayan ranges to north, or even further northwards Spiti, the middle land between India and Tibet.
The peaks in Himachal Pradesh are not very high, the highest peak of Himachal is lower in altitude than 32 peaks in Uttarakhand, but still avg elevation of Himachal Pradesh is greater. Himachal Pradesh has four major ranges of mountains and hills like - Zanskar, Greater Himalayas, Lesser Himalayas & Outer Hills (Shivaliks).
Zanskar is a trans Himalayan range, considered a part of Himalayas, most of Zanskar lies in Ladakh and the 5 highest peaks of Himachal lie in this range. Zanskar of Himachal can be further sub-divided in to two parts:
- Shilla subrange, where Shilla is the second highest peak of Himachal Gya and Undung Kangri peaks are located and also Kiber Wildlife Sanctuary.
- Reo Purgyil subrange, which has the highest eponymous peak of Himachal as well as Leo Pargail & Ninjeri peaks.
From Zanskar, Tsarap River emerges, which forms the Zanskar river ahead, other rivers are Pare Chhu/Parang and Lingti.
Southwards, from the northern corner to eastern corner of the state, the Great Himalayan Range is extended. This is divided into 6 subranges:
- Menthosa on West
- Phabrang to the east of Miyar river
- Mulkila to east of Bhaga River
- Parwati Parwat group to east of Chandra river - It can also subdivide into 3 subranges: Parwati Parwat, Manerung, Shrikhand Kailash

The Great Himalayan Range acts as a source to Chenab or Chandrabhaga River. Spiti rivers headwaters, Pin River, Parwati, Sainj & Tirthan are some major rivers originating here. Himachal Pradesh has 9 Wildlife Sanctuaries and 3 National Parks.
Further ahead, to the south of Chenab lies lesser Himalayas of Himachal, Pir Panjal forms the watershed between Ravi and Chenab Rivers. Around Indrasan here is Inderkilla National Park as well & Pir Panjal merges with Greater Himalayan Ranges here. Nearby, at the source of Ravi River, called Bara Bhangal Valley, one spur or outcrop extends out to Mani Mahesh or Chamba Kailash. Dhauladhar ranges merge with Pir Panjal here at Shikar Beh peak as well. Pir Panjal is a major geographical divide between two vastly different cultural and religious zones as well. To link these two worlds, there are several passes over Pir Panjal such as - Sach, Kugti, Rohtang and Hampta. Now, Attal Tunnel and Rohtang tunnel also links these.
Dhauladhar, “the white mountains”, separate Chamba & Kangra valleys. Highest peak of Dhauladhar is Hanuman Tibba, near Manali. This range extends out to the west till the banks of Ravi, where there are places like Dalhousie & Khajjiar. From the eastern end, on spur goes on towards south to the bend of Beas River.
